Input/output modules, also known as control modules, can output signals or provide a switching signal to activate controlled equipment when control is required. They can also receive feedback signals from the equipment to report to the host computer.
They are an important component of fire alarm linkage systems. Most input/output modules on the market provide a pair of passive normally open/normally closed contacts for controlling the controlled equipment. Some manufacturers' modules can be configured as active outputs through parameter settings.
Correspondingly, there are also dual input/output modules, multi-input/output modules, etc.
