Description

   The IC697ALG440 Current Input Expander Module is part of GE Fanuc's Series 90-70 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) lineup. It provides 16 current input channels, each supporting a 4–20 mA input range. To function, this module must be paired with a base converter module and a voltage expander module, forming a complete analog input subsystem for a PLC. Users can mix and match these expander modules with the base converter to create systems with up to 120 input channels. The module converts digital signals into analog signals and represents the data in 2's complement format.

   Key features of the IC697ALG440 include LED status indicators, error detection capabilities, channel response monitoring, and comprehensive module health diagnostics.

   The module utilizes an analog multiplexer to sequentially connect each input to the analog-to-digital converter, allowing one input to be processed at a time. For signal connections, terminals 36 and 38 on the base converter module can be used to carry analog expansion signals. For differential data bus communication, terminals 37 and 39 are available as serial ports. It is important to observe proper polarity when wiring, and if a shielded cable is used, its shield should be connected to terminal 35, though shielding is optional.

   The IC697ALG440 must be installed in the same rack as its associated expander modules, ensuring that all modules are physically adjacent for proper operation.
