Working Principle

The Bently Nevada 330104 proximity probe operates based on the eddy current principle. The probe tip generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field. When a conductive target, such as a rotating shaft, enters this field, eddy currents are induced on the target surface.

As the distance between the probe and the target changes, the strength of the eddy currents also changes. This variation alters the electrical characteristics of the probe, which are converted into a voltage signal proportional to the gap distance. The resulting signal accurately represents shaft position or vibration and is processed by the monitoring system for analysis and protection functions.
