Functional Role in the System
The 1746-IO8 is a hybrid digital I/O module developed for the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 platform. Unlike fixed input or output cards, this module allows each channel to be individually configured as an input or output, providing flexibility when cabinet space is limited or when different applications have varying I/O requirements.
The module connects directly to the SLC 500 backplane and exchanges I/O status information with the controller via standard SLC data sheets, making it suitable for both new system configurations and system retrofits.
